Table of Contents

The two Josiah Spodes may justly be regarded as the second most important names in the development of English ceramics. This book traces the history of the Spode enterprise up to 1833, when W. T. Copeland purchased the business, and discusses the great variety of fine earthenware, stone china and bone china wares made by the great Spode manufactury. About the author Robert Copeland was born in 1925, the younger son of Gresham Copeland, partner in the family-owned Spode manufactury in Stoke-on-Trent. In 1979 he became the historical consultant to Spode Limited and he has augmented the collection of the Spode Museum Trust. Other titles for Shire by this author are: Blue and White Transfer-printed Pottery Ceramic Bygones
