Table of Contents Benny Sirota, Leslie Illsley and Jan Thomson set up troika in 1963. Jan Thomson was bought out in 1965. Benny Sirota had some experience of potting and Leslie Illsley had trained as a sculptor and had experience of making moulds. Leslie concentrated on the design of molded pieces and Benny experimented with surface textures and glazes. This unique combination led to the development of the smooth glossy finishes and the rich textured surfaces for which Troika pottery is now famous. The Troika Pottery was based the Wheal Dream site on the sea front in St Ives, Cornwall from 1963 to 1970, moving to Newlyn until its closure in 1983. Troika had two main ranges of ceramics - the rough textured range and the smooth glazed ranges. Although there was some crossover in shapes and styles between the ranges, they each had different characters and different successes. Troika Ceramics of Cornwall by George Perrott offers a peek into the history, designs, and purchasing tips for Troika enthusiasts and collectors. This book is lavishly illustrated, and includes a price guide.
