Table of Contents The first book to record the production of the Viennese ceramic company. Founded in Vienna in 1885 by Friedrich Goldscheider, the firm maintained an art studio directly employing a number of designers while also commissioning designs from outside artists and reflected the changing fashions and tastes of its times. The firm participated in the Art Nouveau movement from both French and Austrian perspectives and, later, restated its international prominence with its Art Deco inspired designs. Goldscheider probably produced over eight thousand models, some in very few numbers and many in quite large quantities. At its best, the firm produced impressive, often massive, symbolist images, charming feminine figurines, and splendidly avant-garde shapes and colors.
