A Price Guide to Chalkware/Plaster Carnival Prizes by: Thomas G. Morris - HER-1998-carnivalprizes-B1 - 1

We are an authorized, direct-from-the-publisher retailer of NEW books. Our titles are ON HAND and available for immediate shipping.

This publication is meant to be used solely as a guide. Prices or valuations found in this guide are for pieces considered to be in near mint to mint condition. Values from region to region, can vary considerably and this guide is simply a tool for you to use in determining trends and identification.

A number of factors enter into the depreciation of value. Should a chalk prize be found as a three dimensional figure, and also as a flat back figure, the flat back figure would be of lessor value. Scratches, chips and paint loss would be a contributing factor in setting a value. A figure that has been broken and reglued or repainted has very little value to most collectors. An exception would be if the piece is considered to be extremely rare.

Often found in this hobby of collecting carnival prizes, is the stiff competition of the "cross" collector. The "cross" collector is someone that specializes in collecting comic strip characters, nudes or fan dancers, movie stars, Betty Boop, Shirley Temple, military and patriotic, etc. This "cross" collector will tend to drive up the prices of whatever they collect.

This publication covers over 600 pieces, most of which are found, photographed in "The Carnival Chalk Prize" and in "The Carnival Chalk Prize II". Some of the figures or pieces in this publication may not have been a carnival prize.
