Making the most of today's jazz album market

Much has changed in the ten-plus years since the last edition of the Goldmine Jazz Album Price Guide was published. The good news is, so much has changed in the jazz market that a new edition is necessary to help seasoned collectors as well as general music fans discover or rediscover the beauty of jazz albums.

As author Dave Thompson states in his introduction, "Records that were, indeed, once impossible to give away have found voracious new audiences -- a symbol not only of changing tastes, but also of changing times."

Within the more than 500 pages of this thoroughly updated tome, are listings for a myriad of releases by familiar labels, such as Riverside, Prestige, and Blue Note, and the note so common. Simply put, this book contains one of the single largest and most comprehensive listings of jazz vinyl albums, nearly 50,000 spanning half a century of jazz music. Each listing includes the album number, title, year of release, and Near Mint value. In some instances there are additional details about reissues or a comparison pack of a specific album.

In addition to the listings this book contains an extensive, albeit evolving Record Label Identifier section. It is not a complete archive, but there are many labels listed, with key details (color of labels, appearance of logos or designs) based on year. This reference section alone is worth the 'price of admission.'
