Table of Contents

This is the first book devoted exclusively to the art glass made by the two dominant makers, Orrefors and Kosta, during what many connoisseurs and collectors consider the 'golden age' of Swedish art glass. While other works have covered this subject, this book fills a gap in existing literature. On the one hand, there are 'scholarly' works that provide detailed information of a historical and academic nature, but which do not specify market values or assist the collector with practical advice. On the other, there are 'collector' books that consist almost entirely of a large number of photographs of glass from many makers, covering common and rare items from all eras, with no focus and no explanation of why the market assigns the values it does to the objects illustrated.

This volume describes the history of Orrefors and Kosta during their peak decades, including the technical and artistic breakthroughs made by such artists as Simon Gate, Edward Hald, Vicke Lindstrand, Edvin Ohrstrom, Sven Palmqvist, Ingeborg Lundin, and others, in order to provide the background required to understand the forces that detemine market prices. The author has included as much informaton as possible that will be of practical use to collectors, such as signatures, factors determining demand for particular designs, estimated values and future price trends.

The text is illustrated with 90 color photos from the author's world-class collection as well as nine illustrations provided by Bo Knutsson Art and Antiques, one of Sweden's premier dealers in the decorative arts. Included is a price guide as well as dozens of photographs of extremely rare and unique ariel glass, figural graal production, Edvinglas and heavily engraved glass, many never before illustrated in literature.
