Arms & Accoutrements of the Mounted Police 1873-1973 by Roger F. Phillips, Donald J. Klancher
A definitive history of the revolvers, rifles, machine guns, cannons, ammunition, swords, lances, saddlery, holsters, etc. used by the NWMP, RNWMP, and the RCMP during the first hundred years of the Force. 200 illus.
A full chapter is devoted to the RCMP commemorative arms which were manufactured during the centennial of the Force in 1973.
Arms & Accoutrements of the Mounted Police is the standard reference for information on the equipment used by this famous force. It will be required reading for collectors, historians, law enforcement agencies, and educators. It is a book which will also be enjoyed and treasured by all.
An important 15-page appendix listing the serial numbers of many hundreds of the weapons actually used by the Force has been included. In some cases it is possible to record the member of the Force who used the gun, or the patrol on which it saw service. But most important, it identifies many arms as Force issue which would not otherwise be recognized. Included in the serial number listings are most of the Snider-Enfield carbines used from 1873 to 1885 (which were not NWMP marked), the Mark I and Mark III Adams and the Enfield revolvers, the Winchester '76 carbines, Lee-Metford and Lee-Enfields, FN(C1 A1), Colts, Smith & Wesson revolvers, and many others.
