John Vogt's transcription of the Dinwiddie County, Virginia 1810 Census, from the original images.
Illustrations, map.
This is the first surviving census for Dinwiddie, since both the 1790 and 1800 censuses have been lost. The manuscript is transcribed in its original form with all beginning and ending notations included. The original is in bad condition, with tape covering some of the data and large pieces of the manuscript's corners torn away. In addition, water damage partially obscures some of the names. The transcriber has examined this document meticulously in over two hundred hours of study and has extracted all of the available and surviving data.
This and other 1810 censuses are transcribed by the author from the original images, and while many of Virginia's censuses are available online, they oftentimes are replete with misreadings. Caveat emptor!
